In my lab, as I wrote in the dedicated post, I have a 3-node cluster running on NUTANIX CE.

Today I set out to fix an alert that had kept popping up in Prism for a few days: “Increased CVM system non-root partition usage due to excessive logging, storage of large log bundles or unused 1-click binaries.“
I connected via SSH to the CVM reporting the problem and started looking at which folders (inside /home) might contain files that were no longer needed and could therefore be deleted. Searching online, I found several tips for freeing up space inside the CVM, which I’m sharing with you below:
In this first location I found the downloads from earlier runs (during the 1-click update procedures), which can be removed without any problem:/home/nutanix/software_downloads
In this other location, instead, I found the same updates as above, but uncompressed. Obviously this turned out to be the heaviest folder and, after removing its contents, I was able to get well below 65% usage of the space available for /home:/home/nutanix/software_uncompressed
Here, instead, you can use the “rm -Rf *.gz” command to clean up all the logs that have been archived and compressed into .gz packages:/home/nutanix/data/logs
With the “df -h” command you can check the disk space in use and make sure things are back to normal. For example, in my case:
nutanix@NTNX-55be5a51-A-CVM:CVM1:~$ df -h
