Upgrading Prism Central

With the release of Nutanix AOS 6.10 LTS, many customers will also need to upgrade Prism Central to keep it compatible. AOS 6.10 is not compatible with Prism Central versions from the pc.2023 “family”, only with pc.2024.

Before upgrading Prism Central, the first thing to check is the compatibility matrix between the starting version and the target version. Nutanix provides this dedicated page, great for clearing up any doubts before you start:

https://portal.nutanix.com/page/documents/upgrade-paths (available only if you have a Nutanix account)

On this page you can validate the upgrade plan you’re about to carry out, not just for Prism Central but for all Nutanix software components. In my case I needed to confirm that Prism Central pc.2023.4.0.2 could be upgraded to version pc.2024.2:

Unlike a few months ago, with pc.2024.2 the upgrade from 2023.4.0.2 is now supported; previously you had to contact Nutanix Support and/or reinstall a new Prism Central (which in some cases simply wasn’t feasible).

The upgrade has to be downloaded manually from the portal and uploaded, together with its Metadata, to the dedicated section in Prism Central:

The upgrade process is fairly long, but in the cases I’ve done so far everything went fine.
